The invention relates to a device for use in the treatment of Hyperbilirubinemia which includes a light source (12), typically selected as one or more light emitting diodes, and light measuring means (14) for measuring light emitted by the light source (12). The light measuring means (14) can take the form of photosensitive electronic circuit elements. The device is also provided with a control circuit (16) for controlling the intensity of light emitted from the light source (12) based on measurements of the light measuring means (14).
