PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve a coated lead wire that allows a simplified step of wiring around a core and enhances a space factor of the coil irrespective of the material of a constructional element and the shape of a slot.SOLUTION: A coated lead wire 4 for a coil of a rotary electric machine uses a plurality of complex stranded wires 43 each being formed by gathering and twisting a plurality of bunch stranded conductors 42 formed by twisting a plurality of conductor strands 41. The plurality of complex stranded wires 43 are disposed side by side so that the adjacent complex stranded wires 43 are contacted with each other and the centers of gravity of cross sections of the complex stranded wires 43 orthogonal to an extending direction thereof are aligned in a row. The circumferences of the plurality of complex stranded wires 43 disposed side by side are coated with a flexible insulating coating material 46.
