In a method for controlling the charging state of a traction battery of an electric or hybrid vehicle, which can be charged by an electricity supply network, at the end of a journey (11) a possibility of discharging before a next journey (8) is determined, and if a possibility of discharging exists, discharging (4) of the traction battery is initiated and charging (6) from the electricity supply network before the next journey is controlled in such a manner that a journey start charging state (7) is achieved before the start of the next journey (8).
