The engine assembly (10) has an air supply system (14) for supplying fresh air to internal combustion engine (12). An exhaust passage (16) discharges exhaust gas from the engine and reformer (30), so as to generate hydrogen from the gaseous fuel. The reformer is connected to gas supply line (34), reformate line (42), and fresh air supply line (36). The valve (38), compressor (40), control device (50) and oxygen sensor (52) are configured to control or regulate air ratio in the reformer. An independent claim is included for method for operating engine assembly of vehicle.
