摘要 A solid illumination device, having: a light source unit, a light emission unit, a light reception unit, a light guide unit, and a protective circuit. The light source unit has a semiconductor laser having a light emission layer made from a nitride, and a driving circuit. The light source unit releases laser light in the wavelength range of bluish purple to blue. The light emission unit has a heat conduction part, a wavelength conversion layer for absorbing laser light and releasing wavelength-converted light, and an optical part capable of guiding the laser light. The light reception unit is capable of detecting light returning from the optical part. The light guide unit guides laser light from the light source unit to the optical part, and guides the returning light from the optical part to the light reception unit. The protective circuit outputs a drive discontinuation signal to the driving circuit upon detecting, from an electrical signal outputted from the light reception unit, that the amount of returning light is outside a predetermined range. Upon being inputted with the drive discontinuation signal, the driving circuit discontinues driving of the semiconductor laser.
