PURPOSE: A karaoke system for providing a gender distinguishing function and an operating method of the same are provided to distinguish a gender of a user in real time and to control an accompaniment operation according to the gender of the user in real time. CONSTITUTION: An audio processing unit outputs an accompaniment signal by processing musical instrument digital interface (MIDI) information in order to perform an accompaniment operation according to a song selected by a user. A microphone input unit receives a voice signal from the user. A gender distinguishing unit estimates a basic frequency from the voice signal (S14).
