PURPOSE: An image saturation preventing apparatus is provided to obtain an image of proper exposure by detecting the saturation and appropriately controlling the lighting when the saturation is generated in a subject image due to the infrared lighting. CONSTITUTION: A signal processor (107) takes a picture of a subject which the infrared lighting lights and processes as a display image signal. A controller (115) determines whether the saturation of the image signal generates or not by the comparison of the image signal and a threshold value. If the saturation is generated in the image signal, the controller lowers the luminescent brightness of the infrared lighting by the control of a lighting driver (117). A first comparison unit (111) compares the image signal with a first threshold value. A second comparison unit (113) compares the image signal with a second threshold value.
