The method involves modifying adjustment of operation of an internal combustion engine i.e. diesel engine, in a periodic manner according to a compromise resulting from a combination of three modes of operation. A respective weight is calculated with regard to a predetermined target evolution. Another respective weight is calculated according to information on electricity consumption by a carburizing engine. An adjustment operation is performed for the engine with regard to a barycenter (2) of respective weights.
