PURPOSE: A system for monitoring a wandering dementia patient is provided to secure the free movements of the patients inside a hospital or home. CONSTITUTION: A system for monitoring a wandering dementia patient includes an active radio frequency identification (RFID) tag and a control unit. The patient wears the active RFID tag capable of networking. The control unit receives a wireless identification (ID) from the active RFID tag with a receiving network, and controls the movement of the patient or tracks the position of the patient in the computer of a user in real time. The active RFID tag has a receiving low frequency (LF) antenna and a transmitting ultrahigh frequency (UHF) antenna. The receiving LF antenna recognizes a range of 0.5 to 3 m.
