PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a low-cost diaphragm device for a projector comprising diaphragm blades excellent in operating smoothness, silence, durability, and the like besides having excellent heat resistance. SOLUTION: The plastic diaphragm blades 4, 5 having elliptic apertures 4a, 5a are moved in opposite directions by output pins 8c, 8d integral with a rotor 8 of an electromagnetic actuator M when the rotor 8 is rotated, thereby changing the size of a diaphragm aperture by the edges of the apertures 4a, 5a. Metallic heat-resistant plates 6, 7 are mounted to the light source side surfaces of the diaphragm blades 4, 5 by thermal caulking work so as to overlap with regions around the apertures 4a, 5a.
