PURPOSE: A method for treating blood cholesterol disorders is provided to lower low-density lipid (LDL) levels in a patient with abnormal LDL levels and to increase high-density lipid (HDL) levels in a patient with abnormal HDL levels. CONSTITUTION: A method for treating blood cholesterol disorders comprises a first therapy including two or more rounds of plasmapheresis to a patient with abnormal total cholesterol levels, abnormal LDL levels, and/or abnormal HDL levels when measured prior to treatment. Through the first therapy, the LDL levels are reduced in a patient with abnormal LDL levels and the HDL levels are increased in a patient with abnormal HDL levels. In a subsequent round of plasmapheresis, plasma is separated from whole blood cells by plasmapheresis which is used for maintaining low total cholesterol levels, low LDL levels, and high HDL levels. |
