PURPOSE: An apparatus for maintain a root gap is provided to prevent welding defects by accurately maintaining a required root gap between steel pipes to be welded. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for maintain a root gap comprises root gap plate assemblies (100) and a detaching device. A plurality of root gap plate assemblies respectively comprises root gap plates (150) to maintain a root gap between two steel pipes. The detaching device separates the root gap assemblies from each other along the circumferences of the steel pipes. Each root gap assembly comprises a fixed member (110), a driving member (130), and a plurality or single elastic member (140). The fixed member is connected to an outer side of a clamping band. The driving unit approaches to the fixed member by a guide unit. The elastic member applies elastic force to the driving member. |
