Disclosed herein is a device for use in a locate operation to detect a presence. or absence of an underground facility, the device comprising: at least one of: transmitter circuitry to generate an applied signal to be applied along the underground facility; and a receiver antenna 127 configured to detect a magnetic held from the underground facility; a memory 122 to store processor-executable instructions: at least one communication interface 124.; and at least one processor 118 communicatively coupled to the memory 122, the at least one communication interface 124, and the at least one of the transmitter circuitry and the receiver antenna, wherein upon execution of the processor-executable instructions, the processor: controls the at least one communication interface 124 to receive environmental information regarding at least one environmental condition of an environment in which the device is located; and stores at least some of the received environmental information in the memory, wherein the device further comprises a location tracking system 130 configured to provide to the processor an indication of a location of the environment, in which the device is located, and wherein upon execution of the processor-executable instructions, the processor; controls the at least. one communication interface to receive the environmental information regarding the at least one environmental condition of the environment based on the indication of the location provided by the location tracking system.
