PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve highly accurate grinding while simplifying the setup work, and to improve productive efficiency in the grinding for various shapes of workpiece. SOLUTION: A grinding device M grinds a workpiece 1 held by a work shaft 2 by pressing the workpiece against a grinding wheel 11 held by a tool shaft 13 intersecting the work shaft 2 within a horizontal surface. In the grinding device M, the displacement of the work shaft 2 and the tool shaft 13 in a vertical direction (arrow Z direction) in a movable range are measured and memorized, and the position of the tool shaft 13 in the arrow Z direction is corrected by a servo motor 24 and a feed screw 23 based on the measured result in an optional setup for the processing of the workpiece 1. Thereby the positional deviation of the work shaft 2 and the tool shaft 13 in the horizontal surface under processing is prevented, and the simplification of the setup work and highly accurate grinding are achieved.
