PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stably obtain a high-precision optical element by preventing temperature distribution and temperature change within a molding die. SOLUTION: In a method for manufacturing the optical element by heating, softening and molding a thermoplastic material 2 mounted on the molding die 1, the temperature of the molding die 1 is controlled while rotating the molding die 1 around an axis parallel to the pressing direction of the molding die 1. In order to downsize a manufacturing apparatus, temperature control of the rotating molding die 1 is conducted from a direction perpendicular to the pressing direction of the molding die 1 during the rotation of the moling die 1.
