PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable even a user who does not know that file storage in a specific file format is recommended to execute image reading and transfer in the recommended file format. SOLUTION: When the user designates values of items, such as a reading parameter and a destination (transmission file) in an image reader 10, a job history management server 20 is inquired about a recommended reading parameter on the basis of the designated value of each item (S103). The job history management server 20 retrieves an image reading and transfer job history with, for example, a transmission file included in the inquiry as a key, and notifies the image reader 10 of a reading parameter having the highest usage frequency among job histories in which the transmission file is a destination as a recommended reading parameter (S203), and the image reader 10 notifies the user of the informed recommended reading parameter (S105), and accepts change setting based on the recommended reading parameter (S106).
