A method and an apparatus for inputting characters using a projection keyboard are provided to consult convenience of a user by inputting characters without opening a cover of a cellular phone. A camera(320) is mounted in an inside of a virtual character inputting device to read characters on a bottom surface. An acceleration sensor(150) is attached to the virtual character inputting device to measure an acceleration value and a slope of the virtual character inputting. One or more projector(310) is attached to the virtual character inputting device to project a virtual keyboard pattern. An optical navigation module(100) is attached to a tip part of the virtual character inputting device to measure a relative movement to a surface. A tactile sensor is attached to the tip part of the virtual character inputting device to measure contact pressure to the bottom surface. |
