PURPOSE: A device and a method for taking images in a portable terminal are provided to gain time for preparation of photographing by resetting a timer when a changes occurs in the shape of a subject, thereby preventing abnormal acquisition of images. CONSTITUTION: A display unit (108) outputs photography data and information of a timer. A memory unit (102) includes at least one module configured to be executed by a controller (100). The module of the memory unit receives the photography data, operates the timer, recognizes a subject in the photography data, resets the timer the operated timer when the shape of the recognized subject changes, and acquires a photographed image when a set time of the timer elapses.
