PURPOSE: A pretreating method of a multifunctional composition for a cold pad batch is provided to cheaply reduce CO_2 generation and energy consumption with an eco-friendly method and to produce high functional and human-friendly fiber products. CONSTITUTION: A multifunctional composition for a cold pad batch contains 30 wt% of a water soluble polycarboxylate-based polymer, 16 wt% of a non-ionic surfactant, 6 wt% of a permeating agent, 5 wt% of a polyoxyethylene alkyl amine derivative, 17.7 wt% of a solvent, 1 wt% of salts, 0.8 wt% of an antifoaming agent, and 23.5 wt% of water. The composition has refining property, metal ion sequestering property, alkali stability, and hydrogen peroxide stability. A composition for treatment of the cold pad batch is prepared by polymerizing 32.33 wt% of a water soluble polycarboxylate-based polymer, 15.76 wt% of ethyl acrylate, 2.28 wt% of butyl acrylate, 0.28 wt% of an initiator, 0.19 wt% of a neutralizing agent, and 49.16 wt% of water at 85°C for three hours. The solvent is selected among isopropyl alcohol, butyl diglycol, hexylene glycol, butyl diglycol ether, butyl cellosolve, ethanol, and methanol.
