Provided are a liquid crystal aligning agent which is excellent liquid crystal wettability and has a desired pretilt angle of 1-90 degrees, and a liquid crystal display device using the liquid crystal aligning agent. A liquid crystal aligning agent comprises at least one selected from a poly(amic acid) prepared by reacting a first diamine represented by the formula(1), a second diamine different from the first diamine and represented by H2N-R3-NH2, and a tetracarboxylic dianhydride represented by the formula(3); and an imidation polymer obtained by dehydration ring-closing of the poly(amic acid), wherein R1 and R2 are independently H, a halogen atom, a substituted or unsubstituted C1-C30 hydrocarbon group capable of having a linking group containing O, N, S or Si, or a polar group, five R2 are identical or different one another, and at least one of R1 and R2 contains a group containing F; R3 is a divalent organic group; and R4 is a tetravalent organic group. |
