PURPOSE: A user authentication system and a method thereof are provided to secure the hardware based security environment and to authenticate a user through separate means. CONSTITUTION: A card (110) mounts an IC chip. The IC chip drives a one-time password (OTP) generation algorithm. A terminal (130) outputs an OTP random number which is generated by recognizing the OTP generation algorithm. The IC chip of the card comprises a control unit and a communication unit. The control unit drives the OTP generation algorithm. The communication unit transmits and receives the OTP generation related information by the OTP generation algorithm.
