An irradiation light quantity control device comprises a mechanical neutral density filter for reducing the illumination by blocking part of the luminous flux from a light source; an integrator element which is provided on the light emitting side of the mechanical neutral density filter and produces an optically uniform distribution of light; and a light diffusion element which is interposed between the mechanical neutral density filter and the integrator element and has a light diffusion function and a high order diffraction light component blocking function.
