PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vessel propulsion apparatus equipped with only one jet pump, configured to improve steerability during backward motion without changing relationship between the steering direction and the vessel turning direction when a vessel moves forward and backward.SOLUTION: A vessel propulsion apparatus includes a nozzle 18, a deflector 19, a reverse bucket 24 (hereinafter referred to as R bucket), and a guide 59. When the R bucket is positioned at a closed position and the deflector is positioned at a straight drive position, the guide divides water flown in a deflector from the nozzle to the right and left at an equal flow rate, to generate a right branch stream flowing forward obliquely to the right and a left branch stream flowing forward obliquely to the left. When the R bucket is positioned at a closed position and the deflector is positioned on the right side, the guide generates a left branch stream larger in flow rate than the right branch stream. When the R bucket is positioned at the closed position and the deflector is positioned on the left side, the guide generates the right branch stream larger in flow rate than the left branch stream. |
