发明名称 Improvements in or relating to shock absorbers
摘要
620,532. Hydraulic shock-absorbers. VANDERVELL PRODUCTS, Ltd., and JOHNSON, E. W. Jan. 20, 1947, No. 1812. [Class 108 (iii)] Relates to double-acting shock absorbers of the type in which a restricted path for fluid flow in both directions between two fluid containers 28, 29 is provided between the opposed surfaces of a metering rod 94 and a bore 32 into which the rod reaches, and in which a byepass for the said passage is provided through the interior of the metering rod, fluid flow through this byepass being controlled by two valves 203, 204 nested together and appropriated one to each direction of flow; according to the invention, for each valve, one of the interengaging surfaces of the valve body and the seat against which'it closes is conical, and the other is a rounded corner. A fitting 202 secured to one end of the hollow metering rod 94 has a central bore of which the outer edge 206 is rounded and engages the conical surface 205 of the valve body 203. This valve body has a central bore enlarged at 216 and finished with a rounded edge to engage the conical surface 209 of the valve 204. The valves are loaded by springs 207, 212 and are contained in a housing formed by a hollow end cap 40 of the shock absorber. An extension 201 of the cap 40 is screwed into the fitting 202. Excess pressure in compartment 28 acts through passages 213, 215 and the bore 216 to lift the valve 204, so allowing fluid to flow through the bore of the metering rod and through the passage 112 to the chamber 29. Excessive pressure in the chamber 29 opens the valve 203 and allows flow into the chamber 28 through the passage 213. The radial passages 215 are formed at the bottom of a groove 214 in the valve body 203 so as to afford short, surge-free paths for fluid flow. To allow major movements to take place more easily in one direction than the other, the spring 212 may be weaker than the spring 207. A bleed-valve 219 may be provided to allow minor movements to occur more easily and to allow discharge of small pressures which may build up. The valves and their seats are preferably of hardened steel. Interchangeable valve bodies 203 may be provided having bores 216 of varying sizes, so as to allow different rates of fluid flow. The construction of the shock-absorber is said to follow the same general lines as that of Fig. 1 of Specification 589,453, which Specification is also referred to as describing a shockabsorber of the stated type.
