摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve performance stability of a seal body, in a shaft sealing apparatus having the seal body formed by stacking a plurality of thin seal pieces.SOLUTION: In a shaft sealing apparatus 1, an annular space is divided, in the axial direction of a rotor, into a low pressure-side area and a high pressure-side area by a sealing apparatus body 4 which is furnished within an annular space between the rotor 2 and a stator encircling the rotor 2 to the outside peripheral side, and which is supported by the stator. The sealing apparatus body is provided with: a seal ring 11 supported by the stator so as to surround the rotor, the seal ring being formed with a split structure comprising a moveable seal ring 12 the circumferential ends of which are mutually adjacent, and a stationary seal ring 13, the moveable seal ring 12 being urged diametrically outward by an elastic body 28; and a seal body 9 of a plurality of thin seal pieces 10 extending inward in the diametrical direction of the rotor from the seal ring, and stacked in the circumferential direction of the rotor. The apparatus has a communicating part 34 for communication of the low pressure-side area and the high pressure-side area.
