The method (1) involves receiving (S1) a three-dimensional data set comprising a vessel portion of a target area of an investigation object. A diameter course is determined (S2) along the vessel portion. A stent position is received (S3) within the vessel portion. A planning value is determined (S4) by entering the stent position, a predetermined dependence of a stent length by a stent diameter and the diameter course along the vessel portion, and is visualized (S5). An independent claim is included for device for supporting planning of stent implantation.
