The method involves blocking an automatic application of a brake (104) by a control unit (103) through an input in an input unit (101). The control unit releases the brake, if it is already applied. The input has two input steps and is possible only during the ignition of a motor vehicle. The blocking of the automatic application of the brake remains obtained after the switching-off of the ignition. The input unit is a center input unit of an onboard computer. The input takes place manually or acoustically.
