PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce possibility that cooling exclusive merchandise such as carbonic acid beverage is heated when the temperature setting of a merchandise storage is unexpectedly turned into heating.SOLUTION: The control device of an automatic vending machine includes: cold temperature switching operation means 1 that is means to be operated in the case of switching the cooling/heating of the temperature setting of a merchandise storage and is set to an ON state when a predetermined external force is applied thereto; continuous operation time measurement means 2 for measuring a time when the cold temperature switching operation means 1 is continuously set to the ON state; and cooling/heating control means 3 for switching the cooling/heating of the temperature setting of the merchandise storage. When the cold temperature switching operation means 1 is set to the ON state, the cooling/heating control means 3 switches the temperature setting of the merchandise storage from either cooling or heating to the other when the time measured by the continuous operation time measurement means 2 is not less than a first predetermined time and not more than a second predetermined time, and turns the temperature setting of the merchandise storage into cooling when the time measured by the continuous operation time measurement means 2 exceeds the second predetermined time.
