[Class 56] [Also in Groups X and XXII] Relates to the bonding together of two objects having different coefficients of expension particularly where one object is brittle or fragile, e.g. glass or ceramic and the other stronger, e.g., metal. According to the invention an intermediate. deformable e member is provided between the objects and is bonded thereto. Several forms of intermediate members are described, that shown in Fig. 1 for example compring a bimetallic plate 5, 6, the member 5, of which has a low coefficient of expansion, e.g. "Invar" (Registered Trade Mark) and the other 6 a high, e.g. brass. Adhesive levers 4 are provided between the bimetallic member and the glass or ceramic 1 and the metal 2. In another form the bimetallic member may be prelaced by soft metal, e.g. lead foil and in another form the bimetallic member may comprise lead and brass. The bonding agent may be inorganic or organic, e.g. natural or synthetic resins, silicones or cement. |
