PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a backlight unit in which an assembling structure of the backlight unit is changed and a bezel as a contour of a liquid crystal display device is formed in the thinnest-possible thickness, and light failure phenomenons such as light leakage can be prevented, and to provide a liquid crystal display device using the unit.SOLUTION: A backlight unit is provided with a liquid crystal panel for displaying an image with a plurality of pixel regions formed; at least one light source fixation part which mounts a plurality of light sources so as to radiate light to the liquid crystal panel and is arranged fixed on an inner part side face of a bottom cover; a light guide plate which light from each of the light sources enters through its side-face incident face and changes a progressing direction of the light toward a front face and emits the light; a sheet guide so formed on the front face of a bottom cover in a state that an inner part is opened to cover the bottom cover and a front face end of the light guide plate; and a plurality of optical sheets arranged in separation from the light guide plate on the sheet guide and emitting the light from the light guide plate perpendicularly.
