This device for mounting a unit (1) has two parallel side faces (3) on each of which there is a tenon (30), the device comprising two parallel lateral slideways formed in the compartment in the instrument panel of a vehicle and acting as a mortice (20) oriented in a substantially longitudinal direction and having an entry zone (25) and a closed-end zone (27) which is not as tall as the entry zone (27), the tenon (30) comprising an elastically compressible part intended to push the tenon (30) vertically into the closed end zone of its mortice (20) as the tenon (30) is introduced longitudinally into its corresponding mortice (20), the tenon (30) comprising a central part (31) from which there extend two opposing symmetric arms (32) each bearing two tabs (33) turned back substantially parallel to the arms (32) and forming symmetric longitudinal anchors (32, 33) with respect to the central part and which are elastically compressible in the heightwise direction.
