A cutting tool comprises a substrate formed of ceramic metal. The ceramic metal is formed of a hard phase formed of Ti, at least one type of metal other than Ti that is selected from groups 4, 5, and 6 of the Periodic Table, and a compound containing at least one of carbon and nitrogen, a bonded phase whose main component is an iron group metal, and unavoidable impurities. On a cutting surface of the substrate, at least one of zirconia particles and alumina particles whose average particle size is between 0.5 mum and 5 mum are scattered, and the concentration of at least one of aluminum and zirconium on the surface is between 0.5 atom% and 5 atom%. |
