An electromagnetic clutch (100) is provided with: a rotor (1) which has a friction plate (13); a stator (2) which has an electromagnetic coil (3); and an armature (4) which is attracted to the friction plate (13) by electromagnetic attraction force generated by the conduction of electricity to the electromagnetic coil (3). The electromagnetic coil (3) includes electromagnetic coils (31, 32). The electromagnetic clutch (100) is also provided with a circuit switching section (30, 35) which is configured in such a manner that, when a switch-on command is outputted, the circuit switching section (30, 35) allows an electric current to flow in parallel into the electromagnetic coils (31, 32), and then, after the armature (4) is attracted to the friction plate (13), the circuit switching section (30, 35) switches a circuit for conducting electricity to the electromagnetic coil (3), from a parallel circuit to a series circuit so that an electric current flows in series into the electromagnetic coils (31, 32). |
