摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect a focus adjustment state of an imaging optical system accurately.SOLUTION: A focus detection device includes a first pair of photoelectric conversion sections arranged side by side in a first direction and a second pair of photoelectric conversion sections arranged side by side in a second direction. The focus detection device comprises: a plurality of photoelectric conversion means PD that are provided corresponding to micro lenses ML respectively; and selection means that selects either the first direction or the second direction as a focus detection direction on the basis of a relation between first pairs of signal strings from the photoelectric conversion means PD corresponding to the plurality of micro lenses ML arranged in the first direction and second pairs of signal strings from the photoelectric conversion means PD corresponding to the plurality of micro lenses ML arranged in a zigzag pattern in the first direction, and a relation between third pairs of signal strings from the photoelectric conversion means PD corresponding to the plurality of micro lenses ML arranged in the second direction and fourth pairs of signal strings from the photoelectric conversion means PD corresponding to the plurality of micro lenses MD arranged in a zigzag pattern in the second direction.
