Provided is a gas circuit breaker that is provided with: contact rings (4, 14) formed from members that can be elastically deformed; a movable contact (32) that moves back and forth along an axial line direction between an input position that bridges the contact rings (4, 14) and a cutoff position in which neither is contacted; ring-shaped holders (5, 15) attached respectively to the contact rings (4, 14); an electrically insulating covering member (6) attached slidably in the axial line direction to a tip part (5a) on the holder (5) and capable of contacting the contact ring (4); and an electrically insulating covering member (16) attached slidably in the axial line direction to a tip part (15a) on the holder (15) and capable of contacting the contact ring (14).
