PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus and an image forming method for minimizing the displacement of a printing position regardless of the error of the diameter of a platen for recording medium conveyance.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus includes: a sensor for detecting a timing mark printed for each label of a label paper roll; a printhead for forming an image on a label on the label paper; a platen disposed to face the printhead across a label paper conveyance path; a platen drive unit for driving the platen; and a control unit for feeding the label paper by a predetermined distance to position in a printing position when the timing mark is detected by the sensor.
