Provided is a solid state image pick-up device (1) that comprises capacitance elements (C) the number of which is greater than the number of unit read-outs which are connected in parallel to a second transfer line (7) to which a plurality of first transfer lines (5) to which a plurality of pixels are connected are connected in parallel, and that is for carrying out the following: a step in which an operation, in which a noise signal output from one pixel (3) is transferred to and maintained by a capacitance element (C) through the second transfer line (7), is repeatedly carried out the number of times of the number of unit read-outs by switching the pixel (3) and the capacitance element (C); and a step in which an operation, in which a signal noise sum signal output from one pixel (3) is transferred to and maintained by one capacitance element (C) through the second transfer line (7) and then a signal noise sum signal and a noise signal output from the same pixel (3) and maintained by a different capacitance element (C) are caused to be simultaneously output, is repeatedly carried out the number of times of the number of unit read-outs by switching the pixel (3) and the capacitance element (C).
