PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for simply and inexpensively producing a protective film with which an image can be favorably visible even when visually recognizing it through a pair of polarizing sunglasses, and panel scattering or scratch formation can be prevented.SOLUTION: There is provided a method for producing a protective film to be pasted to a transparent panel in an image display device having an image display module of which emitted light is linearly-polarized light, and the transparent panel, where the protective film has a film substrate layer comprising a biaxially oriented polyethylene-based resin film, and the method includes a step of obtaining a protective film of substantially square shape by punching an original film of the protective film, and the punching processing to the substantially square shape is carried out such that an angle &thetas;1 between a polarizing axis of the linearly-polarized light emitted from the image display part and one orientation axis of a molecule in the film substrate layer, and an angle &thetas;2 between the polarizing axis of the linearly-polarized light emitted from the image display part and the other orientation axis of a molecule in the film substrate layer become 20-70°. |
