[Classes 78 (i) and 78 (iv)] Means for loading coal tubs from main road conveyers in mines comprises an inclined shoot, fed by a conveyer, which is enclosed to contain the dust and has at its delivery end a rotary cutoff plate interconnected by an operating handle with a stop to prevent movement of the tubs down an inclined track beneath the shoot, so that when the tubs are held up, a tub is in position to receive coal from the shoot and the cut-off plate is moved out of the shoot to allow coal to pass into that tub, and when the loaded tub is allowed to travel from beneath the shoot, the cut-off plate prevents discharge of coal from the latter. As shown, coal is fed from a conveyer a to tubs h down a shoot b which is provided with a cut-off plate e, which is moved into or out of a position about its axis g across the shoot to hold up delivery to the tubs by a handle i. This latter through links p, q also operates a spring- controlled stop k which normally holds a tub in position to receive coal from the shoot, but which may be withdrawn to allow the tub to proceed down its inclined track x, the handle i simultaneously moving the plate e across the shoot b. The shoot is provided with one or more water sprays d to keep down dust, an observation window n and a light fitting o for illuminating the interior of the shoot. Spillage aprons m are movable into and out of position by the lever i to prevent coal falling over the sides of the tubs, whilst a scraper (not shown) between the shoot and the internal surface of the plate e where the latter passes into and out of the shoot prevents small coal from passing out under the shoot. A cross ribbed pulley r removes fine particles of coal from the return run of the conveyer a.
