The shaft (1) has a torque measuring unit (4), and two shaft sections (2, 3), which are coupled with one another in a rotatably flexible manner. A sensor element (5) is provided at the section (2) and a transducer element is provided at the section (3). The section (2) has a circularly-cylindrical centering seat (9) and a teeth section (10), and the sensor element has a sleeve (6) with a circularly-cylindrical passage (7), where the sensor element is guided to the seat and is axially pressed on the teeth section. An independent claim is also included for a method for mounting a torque measuring unit on a steering shaft.
