<p>A method of authenticating a transaction comprises receiving from a user's mobile device user location information in response to a change of location of the mobile device, storing the location information in a database in a record associated with the user, receiving a request for authentication of a transaction purportedly by the user. The request includes transaction location information, and the transaction location information is compared to the stored user location information. Authentication data is generated in response to the result of the comparison. Such a method does not require the mobile device to be turned on in order to provide authentication. The change of location may be a change of country or network, and the authentication may comprise an indication that the transaction is fraudulent. A server for performing the method is also claimed, as well as a mobile device for communicating with the server. Such a device may be associated with a home country or network and configured to send user location information only when the device is located outside the home country or home network.</p> |
