The device has a reactor comprising an inner space with an oxidation zone for oxidization of a carbon-containing starting material and a reduction zone for reducing intermediate products of the oxidization. A heating unit (23) is arranged at a post-treatment unit (24) i.e. combustion unit, for heating the residual substance by a thermal reactor. Heat transfer partition walls (21) are provided between the post-treatment unit and the heating unit to transfer heat from the thermal reactor into an inner space (25) of the post-treatment unit and separating the inner space from the heating unit. The reactor is provided as the heating unit. The heat transfer partition walls are formed as reactor cladding housings. The post-treatment unit and/or the heating unit are designed as gasification and/or pyrolysis unit. An independent claim is also included for a system for producing heat energy and/or electrical power.
