PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus including a plurality of focus detection means different in range where the defocus amount of a photographic lens is detected by one search, which is excellent in at least one of focusing accuracy, focusing speed, and operational feeling. SOLUTION: There is provided a single lens reflex camera in which when the defocus amount of a subject is detected by using two AF sensors 8A and 8B different in the width of a detection range where the defocus amount of a photographic lens 3 can be detected, a drive speed for driving a focus lens group 3a in the detection range by using the AF sensor 8A for the photographic lens having an open F value of F5.6 is higher than a drive speed for driving the focus lens group 3a in the detection range by using the AF sensor 8B for the photographic lens having an open F value of F2.8.
