[Class 39 (iii)] A method of heating a metallic workpiece comprises two stages ; during the first stage a comparatively large amount of power is supplied to the workpiece to raise the surface temperature rapidly; during the second stage the power supplied to the workpiece is gradually decreased according to the formula P=Poe -t/T where Po= power supplied at first stage, t=time from commencement of decrease and T=time constant dependent on the nature of the material.</p> |
