An electrode assembly and a lithium secondary battery containing the electrode assembly are provided to reduce the caloric amount of a negative electrode plate and to improve capacity. A jelly-roll type electrode assembly comprises a positive electrode plate(230) which comprises a positive electrode current collector(232), a positive electrode active material layer(234) coated on at least one surface of the positive electrode current collector, and a positive electrode uncoated area(236) where the positive electrode current collector is exposed; a negative electrode plate(240) which comprises a negative electrode current collector(242), a negative electrode active material layer(244) coated on at least one surface of the negative electrode current collector, and a negative electrode uncoated area(246) where the negative electrode current collector is exposed; and a separator which is interposed between the positive electrode plate and the negative electrode plate, wherein the electrode assembly comprises a round part having a curvature diameter smaller than other part and a plurality of spaces divided by the round part, and the number of the negative electrode uncoated area at the surface where a negative electrode tap(248) is adhered is 2 spaces or less. |
