PURPOSE: An internet protocol (IP) coupled router search unit of a non-powered device and a method thereof are provided to prevent the duplication of data transmission from the non-powered device to an IP-based terminal. CONSTITUTION: A non-powered, IP-coupled router generates a response message in response to a search message (640). The non-powered, IP-coupled router transmits the response message to a non-powered device in unicast mode (650). If the response message is received, the non-powered device generates a data packet (660).
