An apparatus for processing the modem error of a multi-function device is provided to transmit or receive fax data through a different modem in a standby mode when an error occurs in at least one modem of modems, thereby improving the reliability of a product. A plurality of telephone lines is connected to the PSTN(Public Switched Telephone Network) line of a telephone office. A plurality of modems(261,262) is connected to the telephone lines to modulate or demodulate fax data. A switching unit(SW1,SW2) connects the telephone lines to the modems so as to match the telephone lines and the modems in a normal mode and connects the telephone lines to the modems so as to cross the telephone lines and the modems in an error mode. A control unit(220) sets the switching unit to the error mode so as to transmit or receive the fax data through a different modem in a standby mode when at least one modem has an error. |
