PURPOSE: An authentication system is provided to easily confirm whether a product is genuine or not while reproduction is impossible. CONSTITUTION: Recognition devices (111-11N) recognize a random pattern identifier. An authentication server (120) receives a pattern recognition result from the recognition devices and performs the authentication for a product in which the random pattern identifier is attached and transmits a product authentication result to the recognition devices. A database (130) stores data which is necessary for product authentication. The random pattern identifier is produced by printing a barcode part for giving a serial number to a target product having a random pattern and a division part for setting a boundary of the random pattern which become a pattern recognition target.
