A device and a method for driving an LCD device are provided to reduce power consumption by controlling the lightness of backlight according to frame reference data. A device for driving an LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) device includes an LCD panel(10), a panel driver(20), a backlight(30), and a backlight controller(40). The LCD panel includes plural LCD cells, which are defined by plural gate and data lines. The panel driver detects frame reference data in source data that is inputted, modulates the source data based on the frame reference data, and displays the modulated data on the LCD panel. The backlight radiates beams to the LCD panel. The backlight controller controls the backlight according to the frame reference data. |
