A secondary battery is provided to prevent the excess of the maximum thickness of a battery or the partial unbalance of the thickness of a battery due to the expansion by the charge of the electrode assembly and the increase of the thickness. A secondary battery comprises a can(10) where one side is opened; an electrode assembly accomodated through the opened side(12) of can; and a cap assembly sealing the opened side of can. The cap assembly includes a cap-plate(30) combined in the open side of can. The length of short length direction of the cap plate is shorter than that of short length direction of the closed side opposite to the open side of can. The length of the long length direction of the cap-plate is equal to that of long length direction of the closed side opposite to the open side of can. |
